Spoilers--Two Movies, Two Nights: Night 1 X-men Apocalypse

This year we're not gifted with just one Superhero movie we get 5 or 6 if you count Suicide Squad and Rogue One.  So far Captain American: Civil War has been my favorite and with the release of X-Men Apocalypse, it's going to pretty much stay that way. 

While this probably the better of the three in the new trilogy, I'm annoyed at the continuity timeline. I'm aware that the last X-Men film pretty much rewrote the entire original trilogy, but I have so many more questions than answers after watching this and that's annoying. 

First off, why isn't Magneto older? Isn't he like 12 during WWII. He was in Auschwitz, this movie takes place in 1983, wouldn't he be like close to 50? Ian McKellen was about the right age back in 2000. Magneto can age that much and turn into Ian McKellen's Magneto in less than 20 years? 

Another problem, Scott Summers is a teen in X-Men Origins: Wolverine. That movie takes place in the 70's, but he's a teen again in 1983.? He was one of the kids who was rescued from the island at the end of the film by a HORRIBLE CGI Patrick Stewart, who might I add was already bald in the 1970's (per that film). Miraculously, James McAvoy regained a full head of hair in 1983 oh and could walk too. The walking could easily be explained by the drugs he was taking via the X-Men: Days of Future Past.   

Let's not forget that in the end of X-Men: The Last Stand, a walking, bald Professor Xavier and an old Magneto went to visit Jean Grey. I'm not as angry at the lack of continuity between the first trilogy and the second, because X-Men: Days of Future Past changed the timeline. 

This is one of my biggest pet peeves.... Stryker!!!He was an old man on X-Men Origins: Wolverine set in the 1970's, a young guy in X-Men: Days of Future Past, set in the 1970's and the same young guy in X-Men Apocalypse, set in 1983. So. how can he be old and young in the same decade? When I say old, he's like very old. Days of Future Past couldn't have changed the timeline that much.

Another continuity issue, but it doesn't actually relate to this movie, Emma Frost. She was on the island, as a teen with Scott, but them was an adult in X-Men: First Class??? Explain that to me...

Wolverine was a part of Team X in the 1970's and yet his skeletal structure was changed in 1983, according to this film. 

This movie wasn't as bad as the critics made it out it out to be. I love seeing Hugh Jackman back as Wolverine, I know we don't get him for much longer. Watching online, I'm worried about where they're taking his character in his final outing as Wolverine. I don't want to see a Rated-R "Old Man Logan" Western.  

There were some comic relief moments. Why doesn't Raven talk in the original trilogy? I loved Quicksilver, Jean, Scott and Nightcrawler. Wasn't Angel a Senator's teen son in Last Stand, there's that continuity thing again. I loved it when Scott said, "I hope we don't see him again," referring to Wolverine. I liked Jean. It was a bit creepy to see an old Logan and a teen Jean, considering in just a few years he's going to have the hots for her. 

I think that Oscar Isaac was a really cool addition to the cast. I know that my hubby loves his acting style. I think he's ok. I liked the character of Apocalypse and the first 30 minutes of the movie were very entertaining. I wasn't confused at all. I felt like more could have been done with the character, but I didn't feel like the movie was rushed either. Days of Future Past was too rushed for me. 

I really liked Eric/Magneto. I don't blame him one bit for his rage. His entire family was taken from him, not once, but twice. So was his daughter supposed to be "Scarlet Witch"?

I didn't understand the really lame end credit scene. I felt like it was just added in there at the last minute with no thought whatsoever. I felt cheated. If Apocalypse is dead and he's in cahoots with Mr. Sinister, I hope they revive Apocalypse.

Overall this wasn't a horrible film. I liked it and as soon as it's $5 at Target, it'll be added to my comic book film collection. Too bad none of the Avengers go on sale. 

I would rate this film 3.5 Pink Gerber Daisies out of 5. Those continuity issues just bug me!!! More questions and not enough answers. I need the answers, that's how my analytical brain works.

Go See Captain America: Civil War

OMG, Wow! What did I just see and can I see it again? I just got back from watching Captain America: Civil War, and what a war it was. This is by far my favorite Captain America outing. The first movie, let's face it, was a snooze fest. The second, Winter Soldier, was 100 times better than the first, and this one just blew Winter Soldier out of the water.

The acting was smart and funny. The movie was a whole lot of fun. Robert Downey Jr. is an amazing talent, as is Paul Rudd. OK really they were all amazing, even the new Spidey! Elizabeth Olsen is my favorite Olsen and I grew up watching Full House. Chris Evans's arms, OMG Superman has some stiff competition. I'm still unsure about Vision and his vision, he reminds me of Dr. Manhattan from the Watchmen and the Silver Surfer from The Fantastic Four. All three are a bit boring and sound the same. Other than that, I loved all the actors in this movie. I'm not a huge fan of Scarlett Johansson, but this movie made me like her! Well, her character at least. Remember when Scarlett Johansson and Chris Evans were in the Nanny Diaries together? I digress. 

The inclusion of Spider-Man made me excited to see him again. I'm so glad Sony is allowing Marvel to use their character again. From what I saw tonight, Marvel did a great job with him. I couldn't bring myself to watch the new Amazing Spider-Man movies (they should really be called the Amazingly Lame Spider-Man movies). It was too soon for a reboot and like the argument over which Batman is better, Tobey Maguire is the better Spider-Man. Again thank you Sony for letting Marvel borrow their character. You obviously didn't know what to do with him, maybe Marvel can fix what you broke when you made The Amazing Spider-Man and Spider-Man 3. I'm actually excited to see Tom Holland take on the role. 

The writers should be praised and given a raise. They had so many characters to write for and they did a really phenomenal job. Nothing in the film seemed forced. We had so many different story lines to watch, but unlike Batman V. Superman everything worked well together, everything made sense. 

Paul Rudd, I have loved you since Clueless. Paul has impeccable comedic timing similar to that of Robert Downey Jr. Other than Chris Evans's arms, he is the best thing in the movie! 

Let's face it Iron Man started off really strong and just went downhill after movie #1. The same thing happened with The Avengers.  Poor Thor and the Hulk, their movies just sucked. Captain America has progressively gotten better. I know Iron Man aka Robert Downey Jr. is finished with his solo films, but does this movie mean there will be another Captain America movie in our future? 

The moral of the story --- what would you do for friendship? What lengths would you go to protect your friends. OK this isn't really the moral of the story, but it could be. It's also about the world government and it's incessant need to control everything. But really though, who cares about the moral, the action was enough to keep you watching,

This was way more than just a Captain America movie. It was a fun ride and I can't wait until it comes out on DVD. I really need to start adding to my Superhero DVD collection. I want all of the DVDs, even the bad movies. I actually want to watch Captain America: The First Avenger again. I tried to watch it when it came out, but it put me to sleep. 

I'm going to now use my Jedi mind tricks on you:  You will now go see Captain America: Civil War and enjoy it! Sorry it's three in the morning and I'm tired. I'm not rereading this post, so if I have grammatical errors, which most likely I will, I'll fix them when the sun comes up.

Captain America: Civil War gets 4 1/2 Pink Gerber Daisies out of 5.

Batman vs. Superman Dawn of Justice in Florida

"Hello Superman. It's time you met your doom," Batman says. With all of the hype surrounding the new "Batman/Superman" movie, I decided to take one for the team and watch so you didn't have to. Just kidding, I was going to watch it anyway. Unlike most of the general public, these new "Superman" movies don't bother me too much. I actually sort of like them, even though Superman II will always be my favorite. Man of Steel was so much better than Superman Returns. Next to Christopher Reeve, Henry Cavill is my favorite Superman. OK, Superman is an American hero and Henry is a Brit, but there is something about his look and about him that seems to embody the character. Sorry George Reeves and Brandon Routh. Side note, Brandon Routh is great in DC's Legends of Tomorrow. 

Batman vs. Superman (from here on out will be referred to as BvS) came out March 25th, the night before I left for Florida. I told my companion that it would be fun to see it at the Downtown Disney in Orlando, our travel destination. He was game for waiting, so on a cold rainy night, we left the "Magic Kingdom" and headed to the nearest theater. 

The critics' reviews were abysmal. I think on Flixster it had a 22% rating from the professional critics and 75% from the novice critics. I'm a novice, I rated it a 4 out of 5 stars. I don't always follow what the critics have to say. I hated Birdman with Michael Keaton (my 2nd favorite Batman), talk about a snooze fest. I love comic books, but I don't own any. I read about them online, and what I know is based on Wikipedia and the movies I've watched.  I felt that the critics were too harsh on the actual film and way too harsh on the actors. They didn't deserve the "beatings" they received. Are critics wrong? certainly, they're only human, they're not Superman.  

Ben Affleck didn't suck as Batman. He's no Christian Bale (my FAVORITE Batman), but he wasn't as bad as he was in Daredevil. I think for the time in Bruce Wayne's life, Ben was good. He was angry and brooding and rough around the edges. Some of his fight scenes were silly and his acting wasn't the greatest. My husband asked who acted better? Henry or Ben, I responded, Jessie Eisenberg. OK OK, Henry's acting was better. Ben is amazing in films like Argo... serious, non-action roles. Overall though, he isn't bad.

Things I thought were bad and could have been better:

1.  I thought that having both moms named Martha, was dumb, but that's a stupid comic book move, not something the writer's made up.

2.  Superman and Batman became "friends" because there moms were named Martha. Stupid.

3. Doomsday looked stupid. 

4.  There was too much going on in the film. There were too many storylines, too many plot points.

5.  When Superman and Wonder Woman fought Doomsday, Batman did nothing but watch them save the world. 

6. I didn't like the Flash. The CW Flash is so much better than this one.
7.  Jimmy Olsen. No explanation needed.
8.  The dream sequence. The acting was terrible in this, sorry Ben.

9. An uber distaste of Wonder Woman!

Actually, I'm a bit tired

Wonder Woman has been my favorite superhero since I was a little girl. Lynda Carter will always be Wonder Woman to me. I wanted to be Wonder Woman, I had my truth lasso, my red boots (knee high socks), my Wonder Woman underoos and I would watch Wonder Woman in my little red rocking chair. Gal Gadot had big red boots to fill, she is not Wonder Woman to me. She isn't a bad actress, I  don't like Wonder Woman with an accent. 

Here's what I loved 

1. The romance between Lois and Clark. It takes me back to Lois and Clark: The New Adventures of Superman and Smallville. 

2. Baywatch Aquaman
3. Lex Luthor. I don't like Jessie Eisenberg as a human. I've seen interviews with him and he comes off as being arrogant, but boy can this guy act!
4. Henry Cavill with his shirt off.
5. Wonder Woman kicks butt!

I know, I know I said I didn't like her, but I'm so happy we get to see her in a movie and let's face it Wonder Woman really does kick some arse. With the box office saturated with male superheroes, it's nice to see a woman finally take charge. Now future generations have a female superhero to look up to. Having a strong female hero is important for young girls to admire. 

All in all, this movie was a fun filled action packed, (with some occasional snooze moments) Batman/Superman adventure.  Could it have been better? Of course. Did the acting suck? Why yes it did. Will I purchase it when it comes out on DVD? I most certainly will. If you're into comic movies, but not overly into the comic book lore, this is an enjoyable movie to watch. This will never be an awarding winning adaption of comic literature and it never set out to be. Just have fun watching it.
